Ask a PetDoc: Weiner dog vomiting after medication
Question: Weiner dog vomiting after medication
Dr. Jim,
My 5 year old weiner dog recently hurt his neck. He is not overweight at all. The vet gave him prednosolone 5 mg and tramadol (pain relief). He was fine until we started giving him the PhyCox-JS (a nutritional for joint care) that she also gave us. He started feeling worse and throwing up blood. We haven’t given him any more but he is still throwing up. No blood has been showing up. When we called the emergency vet they had never heard of PhyCox-JS. Any recommendations?Sincerely,
Ryan
Dr. Jim says:
Ryan,
Talk to your veterinarian about controlling the vomiting, if it is still occurring. Since the episode was associated with the nutritional product don’t give anymore. Since a potential side effect associated with the prednisolone is stomach irritation and even ulceration, your veterinarian may wish you to discontinue that product too.
