Bulldog
Overview
The Bulldog originated in England and was for a time called the English Bulldog. Although descended from dogs used in blood sports in early England, the Bulldog today is a very different dog.
Height
12 to 16 inches tall
Weight
40 to 50 pounds
Color
This breed can be white, brindle, red, fawn or other related shades.
Coat type
The coat is short and fine.
Grooming
The coat should be brushed weekly with a soft bristle brush. At the same time, the toenails should be trimmed and the ears and teeth cleaned. The wrinkles on the face need to be cleaned daily.
Life expectancy
10 to 12 years
Temperament
Bulldog puppies are silly, funny, and clumsy while adult Bulldogs are calm, steady, and for the most part, gentle. They are good family dogs as long as family members don't mind a canine companion who drools, snorts, snores and suffers from flatulence.
Activity level
Puppies like to play but adults are fairly calm. A walk every day is necessary to keep the Bulldog moving but otherwise these dogs can easily become couch potatoes. The breed does have problems breathing in hot, humid weather.
Training
Training should begin early as these can be powerful dogs. Once trained, Bulldogs are rarely problem dogs.
