Vomiting
Written by DBSABZB
Hello,
About a month ago, I had to switch my English Bulldog to a new food b/c his old one went out of production. After this time, he started vomiting. Not once a day, but regularly enough that I noticed it. I have since switched him to a different food, but the semi-regular vomiting problem continues.
Suggestions?

My dog vomits everytime he drinks water. He drinks the water and then within a few minutes vomits it up. It is usually thicker and slimy and sometimes has white in it. He has always done this - since a pup and is now 7 years old. I'm tired of cleaning up water vomit or stepping in it, when I don't see it - any suggestions?
That sounds like a frustrating situation. I am wondering if he drinks too fast and does he have any trouble with food? I am not really sure what to recommend. Maybe smaller amounts of water at a time more frequently and possibly elevating the bowl. Have you had him seen by the vet specifically for this?

It is hard to know if the change in diet started the vomiting or it was a coincidence. If at all possible, finding a food with an ingredient list as close to the original food would be worth a try. Often it is the protein source (especially beef) that dogs seem to have trouble with in the way of an allergy that can cause vomiting or skin and ear problems. They can also be allergic to another ingredient such as corn. One of the first five listed would most likely be the cause. Other foods can also cause stomach upset like a new treat or table scraps.
If it does seem like the diet is the cause of the vomiting at this point, it may be worth a trip to the vet to see if there is something going on medically that needs to be treated. Vomiting can be caused by anything from a dietary indescretion (ate something that did not agree) to a serious illness such as kidney disease. It sure would be helpful if they could talk!
When switching diets it is best to take 5 to 7 days to make the change. Starting with a small amount of the new food mixed with the current food and gradually increasing the mix.
