small bumps underneath the skin around head and neck
My Doberman has recently gotten some small bumbs underneath his skin around his head and neck. I am tempted to think it's being caused by the heat her in Texas, but I am still concerned enough to worry. If I touch them he doesn't react in pain. Is it a rash or something else? They feel like tiny peas or something similar.
Anyone have a suggestion? I would hate to take him to my vet and spend a ton of money on something that could be as simple as a heat rash, but I don not want anything to harm him either.... help???

My doberman got bumps some being bathed too often
I have a similer problem I have a Husky and he had one big lump on his neck and it busted a couple days ago now the hair is gone.do you have a suggestion?
It sounds like your dog may have had an abscess or a cyst of some sort. The trick to managingwounds at home is to keep them clean with an antibacterial soap like Betadine, keep hair away from the opening by carefully clipping (with electric grooming clippers if possible), dry the area well after cleaning (blotting with gauze) and then applying an antibiotic cream such as Neosporin or Bacetracin. Treating the area like this 2 to 3 times a day is ideal.
Distracting your dog with a walk or a bone to chew on right after you treat the area will help keep him from scratching at it. If you want to be sure that it was indeed an abscess or a cyst, and the best way to take care of it, you may want to take your dog to the vet. If the lump was a cyst, it may return. If it was an abscess, there may have been a tiny foreign object inside the lump which caused it and if it did not come out when it ruptured, it could return as well. Good luck!

My Doberman here in TX also has only one pea sized lump on the forhead between her eye and her ear. It is itchy and painful if squeezed and turns red and almost scabby. Heat compresses won't get it to come to a head. It looks like a big zit with a hard core to it. What can we do, or is the vet the answer? I will take her to the vet if I should and let y'all know what it is.
Hi, it is really hard to say for sure what the lump is. It could be anything from a cyst to a cancerous lump. If it is hard, growing and bothering the dog, I would recommend a vet visit to see exactly what it is. They may be able to remove it pretty easily before it grows more. My concern is she may damage her eye if she rubs at it too much. Good luck!

Missaxerin, I am not familiar with dogs getting heat rash but I would guess if they did it would be more on the areas of skin under the arm pits, on the abdomen or groin area. It is hard to say for sure but the small bumps could be a reaction to something your dog is coming in contact with or something he is eating. If that was the case though you might think you would see it in more areas than just the neck.
Other possibilities would be some sort of benign or cancerous lumps. The only way to know for sure is a vet visit. The vet may be able to say for sure what the lumps are just by looking and it would only cost an office visit or they may want to do a fine needle aspirate which consists of removing some cells from a lump and looking at them under a microscope.
If you decide to watch the lumps for a short while and see what happens, take note of the locations and sizes and if they start to grow, it's best to have them checked out. Good luck!

I am experiencing a similar condition in my dog, but the bumps are along his back. After a few days the bumps dry out, fall off and take some fur with them. He is not scratching and the bumps do not seem to be painful. Can this be an allergic reaction or an infestation?
I am really not sure what is happening with your dog. The only thing that comes to mind is if he is getting into a nest of ticks. An allergic reaction if it was an isolated incident would most likely disappear and the hair wouldn't always fall out unless there is a lot of scratching going on. It may be worth bagging up a few of the "bumps" and taking them by the vet office to see if they have an ideas.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.
