Running with my puppy

I have a six month old goldendoodle who loves to play and is full of energy. I take her on plenty of long walks, but as a runner, I would love to take her along. I have heard that it is bad to run with puppies as it can damage their bones. How old should my puppy be before I take her with me on a run? I realize that I will need to start out with short distances and build up gradually, but I don't want to do so too soon.

Your Goldendoodle will make a great running companion but please consult your vet before heading out for any distance.  The general rule is to wait until the bones and joints are done developing around 2 years of age.  When she is matured, start with a half a mile and increase gradually.  It is wise not to feed a meal until after a run so you don't have the risk of bloat and be careful of overheating in the summer months.
