pregnant cat

My small manx kitty is pregnant and going by the day she last got out, (she is an indoor cat) I figured she was due about 4-12.. On 4-15 I noticed she had a light bloody discharge. Its now 4-17, two days latter and no kittens.  I am worried, this is her first litter and she so little, could the kittens be too big for her to deliver?  She seems ok; eating, drinking and is still somewhat active.  Is it normal for her to have discharge days before giving birth?  Is there something I can do to help get this show on the road?

Krydlynn, the normal gestation for a kitty is about 59 to  63 days.  Some discharge prior to the due date may be normal.  I would recommend for you to be in touch with a local vet to describe exactly what is going on with your kitty.  If your cat goes more than a day or two beyond her due date, it can become a serious medical situation quickly.

Providing a quiet place for her to have kittens that includes a box with towels or small blankets, a litter box, food and water near by is really all you can do at home for now.  It is usually recommended for nursing mothers to eat kitten chow.

Good luck and I hope all goes well.
