old dog with bubbles in her stomach
Written by bubbersonthemove
My 13 yr old 40 lb Jack mutt is "smelly" and we can hear the bubbles in her stomach. Is there anything I can do for her? She is eating and breathing normal but is just a little sad... or maybe I am sad for her. Should I use enzymes? pepto?? or just leave her alone and love my old and aging dog??

Sometimes the stomach rumbling is an upset stomach or an empty stomach. Feeding a dog twice a day and a snack in between will sometimes help with the rumbling. If the rumbling in her stomach is caused by an upset of some sort and is causing her to be mopey, than I would keep a close eye on that. If she becomes more mopey and goes off her food than I would give the vet a call. Aging dogs can start to show suddle signs of various medical conditions and if caught early, there are treatments that can keep them healthy longer.
I would not recommend using any over the counter medications for your dog unless you have taken your dog for a physical and talked it over with your vet. Your dog is considered geriatric at this point and you want to make sure she does not have the beginnings of a medical condition before giving her anything.
As far as the smelly part, a good dog grooming shampoo and regular weekly brushing should help you out.
