floor grout

My dog, she is a year ole, sometimes is caught digging up the floor grout and eating it. We stop her when we see her doing it. She is now vomiting small bits of blood. Could this grout be poison to her?

I am not familiar with the contents of floor grout but any substance, foreign object or food not recommended for dogs can be potentially dangerous and or life threatening.  I would suggest a call to your vet and let them know what your dog has been chewing on,  what is in the floor grout if you know and that she is now vomiting.

Most dogs, especially puppies and young adults need to chew as part of their daily activity.  If your dog is chewing while you are not around or is being destructive, she may have separation anxiety.  Providing lots of safe toys to chew and keep her busy will keep her distracted and hopefully away from the floor.  Toys like a Kong that can be filled with treats and peanutbutter, a Galileo Bone or a raw marrow bone from the butcher provide dogs with hours of chew time.

If your dog continues to chew the floor, you may consider a large crate for her to stay in while you are not home to keep her safe.  It is also very helpful to increase the amount of exercise for dogs that chew alot.  A 15 to 20 minute walk in the morning after she has eaten will help release some energy and make sure she has gone to the bathroom before you leave.

I hope this helps and I have included some links to some of our articles you may find helpful.  Just click on the blue highlights.  Good luck!
