cat eye changing color
My cat is 4 years old and has beautiful light green eyes. About 1 year ago her left eye started to develop small brown spots in it. At first i wasnt worried because my moms cat who is over 10 years old had developed a few and the vet said that a few was nothing to worry about. The past few months, her whole eye has basically turned brown. Her behavior really hasnt changed and she is not blind at all. Her other eye doesn't even have one brown spot. Yesterday and today there has been some discharge from her eye and I'm a little worried. i made an appointment with an animal eye specialist but they had nothing open for over a month. what should i do wait? has anyone else had this problem before? THX

Catgal, usually brown spots on eyes that do not appear to be causing any change in vision or any problems are simply a change in color variations and are not considered a medical problem. The technical term used to describe the variations in color is Heterochromia. Animals with this condition experience no vision loss and no discomfort.
If your cat's spots are just Heterochromia, then the discharge could be a separate issue possibly caused by either an irritant, allergy or infection. If the brown spots are a medical condition then they could be related. If your cats eye seems to be getting alot worse or she is rubbing at it or becomes less active, has a change in behavior and won't eat, then you should have her seen and treated by your regular vet until you go to the specialist.
