Can I give my cat Ativan (Lorazepam) to trim his nails?
Written by meemoe
My cat is 30 pounds and he's a fighter. He can and has hurt me when I've tried to trim his nails. Can I give him a low dose of Ativan to calm him down/sedate him so that I can get his nails trimmed?

Meemoe, the safest bet for you and your kitty would be to have a technician appointment at your vet for your cat to get his nails trimmed. It is hard to predict how a pet will respond to a medication that is not specifically for them and best not to try it at home.
Many vets offices will let you make a technician appointment at a reduced rate verse an office visit with a doctor. There is a product called Soft Paws that can keep your cat from doing any damage with his claws for 4 to 6 weeks. It is a rubber cap that is glued on to the nail. It is painless and relatively inexpensive.
Good luck to you!
