bengal with dandruff

My one year old bengal cat seems to have developed dandruff.  Is this normal?  What can I do about it?

 Hi, hello Marcie

I have a cat too and he develop dandruff when I start to brush his fur with one kind of brush, it have a very sharp pointy ends,  as soon as I stopped it  the dandruff vanished, I just telling you my experience, may do not help you.

Good luck

Cris

Ramalama, in my experience some cat dandruff is not uncommon.  A few factors that can influence the amount of dandruff include diet, humidity, and the animals skin condition.  A well balanced diet, plenty of fresh water and regular brushing will help keep your cats coat healthy.

There are shampoos available for cats labeled to help with dry flaky skin.  Too much bathing however can cause the skin to dry out and removes the animals natural oils which can make the problem worse.  It is best to check with your vet for a recommendation on a shampoo and how often to bathe.

If your cats skin becomes very itchy or there is hair loss, you may want to have the vet take a look.  There are some skin mites or bacterial infections that can cause more serious skin problems and require medical treatment.

I hope this helps and good luck!
