The Sheltie is probably descended from the ancestors of the today's Collie but has been a separate breed for many years.

18 to 25 pounds

Grooming

This coat needs thorough brushing at least twice each week. At least once each week, the dog's teeth should be brushed, the ears cleaned, and the toenails trimmed.

14 to 16 years

Temperament

Shelties are devoted to their owners. They are playful, silly, and yet dignified. Shelties are also wary of strangers. They are good with kids although they have a tendency to try to herd (circle) them.

Activity level

The more activities the better! Shelties love to run, play fetch, herd livestock, and play other canine sports.

Training

This is a bright, intelligent breed that needs training to keep her mind occupied. A bored Sheltie will find her own trouble!
