Overview
The Sheltie is probably descended from the ancestors of the today's Collie but has been a separate breed for many years.

13 to 16 inches tall
Weight
18 to 25 pounds
Color
Sable, blue merle, black; with or without white and tan markings
Coat type
Short, dense undercoat with a long, profuse outer coat
Grooming
This coat needs thorough brushing at least twice each week. At least once each week, the dog's teeth should be brushed, the ears cleaned, and the toenails trimmed.
Life expectancy
14 to 16 years
Temperament
Shelties are devoted to their owners. They are playful, silly, and yet dignified. Shelties are also wary of strangers. They are good with kids although they have a tendency to try to herd (circle) them.
Activity level
The more activities the better! Shelties love to run, play fetch, herd livestock, and play other canine sports.
Training
This is a bright, intelligent breed that needs training to keep her mind occupied. A bored Sheltie will find her own trouble!
