Persian

Overview

The Persian is an old breed that originated in the Middle East but found a home in Great Britain where it became very popular.

Physical characteristics

This is a short, heavily boned cat, with a stocky body and thick legs. The head is round, the eyes are large and round, and the muzzle and nose are very short.

Color

Any and all colors.

Coat

Long and flowing.

Grooming and care

Brush and comb this coat thoroughly, all the way to the skin and out to the tips of the hair, each and every day. Wash the eyes and clean the skin folds on the face daily. Clean teeth once a week, especially during kittenhood so the cat becomes accustomed to it. Trim toenails weekly and check the ears, cleaning when needed.

Life expectancy (indoors)

13 to 15 years

Temperament

Placid, lazy, and sweet, the Persian is popular as much for its easy-going personality as it is for its coat. Not much gets a Persian upset.
