Mastiff

Overview

The Mastiff, also called the Old English Mastiff, was bred to protect the property of his owner. The dog would prowl the property at night and when finding a trespasser, he would use his huge bark to intimidate the bad guy and summon help.

28 to 30 inches or taller

Weight

120 to 180 pounds or more

Color

Fawn or brindle with a black mask

Coat type

Short and coarse

Grooming

At least once each week, the coat needs to be brushed, the dog's teeth should be brushed, the ears cleaned, and the toenails trimmed.

Life expectancy

8 to 10 years

Temperament

Mastiff puppies are clowns but adults are dignified. Mastiffs are very loyal to their people. They can be very watchful and protective. Mastiffs also drool, snore, and slobber.

Activity level

A play session or walk is great; otherwise, this is a very calm breed.

Training

This is a must for all puppies as these dogs are very big and powerful.
