Greyhound
Overview
An ancient breed with a history reaching back at least 5,000 years, the Greyhound is a running machine. They were bred to hunt by sight and run down their prey. Today, many retain those instincts and all activities with pet cats, ferrets, rabbits and other small animals should be strictly supervised.

Temperament
When not running, these dogs are quiet and calm, and have a tendency to bond more closely with one person in the family rather than the entire family. These dogs are wonderful with children when raised with them.
Activity level
Most Greyhounds are firm believers in comfort. In their eyes, the sofa is definitely for Greyhounds, not people! But keep in mind, even though they enjoy naps on the sofa, this is a very athletic breed that needs a good, vigorous run every day.
Training
Retired racing Greyhounds are usually well socialized and already trained to walk on a leash. They will need to learn how to live in a home but that's usually easily accomplished. Greyhound puppies need to attend a puppy class just like other dogs so they can learn household rules.
Common Health Problems
- Difficulties with anesthesia
- Bloat and torsion
