Great Dane
Overview
This German breed was developed to hunt wild boar. In the late 1800s, it was known as Deutsche Dogge. Curiously, the origin of the name "Great Dane" is unknown.

125 to 180 pounds
Color
Brindle, black, blue, harlequin, and fawn.
Coat type
Short and smooth.
Grooming
At least once each week, brush the coat with a soft bristled brush. At the same time the dog's teeth should be brushed, the ears cleaned, and the toenails trimmed.
Life expectancy
8 to 10 years
Temperament
Puppies can be quite rough and may be too much for small children. As adults, Great Danes are dedicated, loyal, watchful companions.
Activity level
He needs regular exercise but is not overly active.
Training
These dogs grow rapidly and training is necessary to make sure the large dog doesn't take advantage of his size.
