Chimp attack leads to discussion of keeping exotic pets

After Sandra Herold's 200 lb chimpanzee, Travis, attacked Charla Nash in Connecticut last week, many are clamoring for a law change.

Current state laws prohibit people from owning primates over 50 lbs, but exceptions can be made at the discretion of the commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection. Travis was one such exception.

According to MSNBC,

[T]he Humane Society of the United States wants national legislation passed. It is calling for support of the Captive Primate Safety Act, which prohibits interstate and foreign sales of primates as pets.
